WHAT IS THIS PAGE ALL ABOUT?
This is a page that will just have random and interesting facts about the ocean, and it's various inhabitants! I will be adding to it regularly. Feel free to reseach and submit a fun or interesting fact yourself! Make sure to check your sources, and send it to christopher@scritchscratch.com

now let's switch gears from Octopi for a minute and talk about....

THE OCEAN:

(Friday, October 10, 2008)

Let's talk about how HUGE the ocean is....

Well first off, it isn't really THE ocean, it is the OCEANS. Because they are divided! Atlantic, Pacific, etc!

The oceans really are huge. They take up nearly 71% of our planet's surface!

The average depth of the ocean is more than 2.5 miles

The oceans provide 99 percent of the Earth's living space- the largest space in our universe known to be inhabited by living organisms! (Like Cyrius!)

More than 90% of this habitat exists in the deep sea known as the abyss, and less than 10% of this living space has been explored by humans! Think about this! This means there could be crazy creatures down there that we don't even know about! Like one-eyed octopus'!

TRUTH vs COMIC

(Friday, October 3rd, 2008)

You are NOT going to believe this, but several days after I posted the first Cyrius the Cycloctopus comic I got a message from my good friend Kqantu, and she pointed me to an online article about an octopus who is being studied for "tentacle favouritism" and intelligence by being given various toys, including a rubix cube! Unbelievable!

Click on the picture to the right (of the REAL octopus) to go read the full article at Telegraph.co.uk!

THE OCTOPUS

(Friday Sept 26th, 2008)

What better place to start?! So, as you might have guessed, the octopus is an extremely intelligent creature. Probably not as pompous as Cyrius, but at least as good at scrabble. BUT... seriously, did you know that an octopus is an invertebrate? That means it has no bones! Crazy! But good if you are into extreme sports.

(Wednesday Oct 1st, 2008)

[UPDATE TO ABOVE: Well, apparently, my good pal Joey has pointed out that the term "invertebrate" indicates "no SPINE". So. Whatever the term for NO BONES is, THAT is an octopus. Ahem.]

So, as you've probably noticed Cyrius has a seriously big noggin. The octopus is a cephalopod. This means he is a "head with legs." And despite Cyrius' heartless ways, the octopus has three hearts and they all are located in the head. Their gigantic head. Just like the hearts, all their organs are located in the head.
